Events from British Science Week.

DT Day: paper crowns, sock puppets, playgrounds and bag-making!

Our DT Day was full of creativity and hands‑on learning. Children in Bryon designed and made their own crowns, carefully measuring to ensure the perfect fit and decorating them with a repeating patterns. In Yarlett Class, children brought their sock‑puppet designs to life, transforming simple materials into characters.  Children in  Blabey Class engineered their own moving playground models, exploring mechanisms. Morpurgo used their sewing skills, designing and decorating fabric bags.

Maths Day:

On Tuesday, children took part in World Maths Day. On top of usual lessons, we explored number, shape, patterns and statistics in experimental and fun ways. In Bryon Class, the children explored the concept of doubling through a range of hands‑on activities including mirrors, dominoes and tens frames. In Yarlett, children explored 3D shapes using sticks and plasticine, as well as testing out their spatial awareness. Children in Blabey Class explored statistics by collecting data and presenting it in graphs. They also used maths to think tactically about winning games. Morpurgo Class investigated prime numbers, before exploring symmetry and running totals of scores in their PE lesson.

Science Day:

We finished STEM Week with science day. Bryon Class explored the fascinating properties of a cornflour mixture, discovering how it can behave like both a liquid and a solid. Yarlett Class investigated the classic pepper‑and‑soap experiment, observing how pepper appears to be repelled by a soapy mixture. Blabey and Morpurgo Classes experimented with how to power a light bulb using lemons and created their own pH indicator using red cabbage.
