School Council

We are very proud of our School Council!

Find out more about how our council is structured and the impact below.

School Council Process:

• Formal application process takes place for pupils in Year 1 to 6 during October.
• Shortlisting between Head Teacher and Chair of Governors begins.  Children are notified if they have been selected for interview.
• Formal interviews take place and School Councillors, including Head Pupil/s are appointed during the month of October.  Feedback is provided.

By November, School Council discussions ensue throughout the year:

• Discussions take place during PSHE every fortnight about a topic selected by councillors & Head Teacher; councillors take notes; meet with Head Teacher the following week and feedback whole-school views at class-level. Decisions are made and any further reflections are fed back as appropriate via whole-class materials (Rolling PowerPoint).  This process ensures pupil voice is regularly captured and acted upon by school Leadership.

Summary of Impact: School Council 2025/2026

• Commissioned a House mindfulness colouring session as part of the yearly offer at Christmas (last day of term) – gathered feedback in the New Year
• Instrumental in seeking pupil voice, researching and planning whole-school trip: Shepreth Park
•  Observing engagement levels of revised outdoor provision & reporting back (inform timetabling)
• Organised and led an assembly for whole-school to vote on favourite lunchtime resources from provision available.  As a result, £2000 was spent on top-rated resources to replenish and add to existing stock over the coming year/s

Summary of Impact: Eco-Council 2025/2026

• Joined ‘Energy Sparks’ and familiarized themselves with website, aims & content.  Submitted first few tasks – earnt points.
• Interviewed and worked alongside Caretaker to understand school settings in Boiler Room linked to frost protection/holiday settings – subsequent savings of £736.  School trip to Boiler Room!
• Monitored usage of Pritt Stick vs Eco-Sticks.  Made price comparison.  Deduced eco-sticks lasted longer, representing better value and whole plastic container can be recycled.  Emailed Huntingdonshire Council to confirm.

• Whole-School trip to Hunstanton beach (following regular communication)
• Christmas enrichment activities based on popularity
• Lunchtime provision rota adjusted to reflect popularity of options (EYFS, Scooter, Cube)
• Boxercise After School Club voted in
• School ‘omelette vs frittata’ Day

• Genres & authors of books to purchase
• Feedback on what we like being praised for (ultimately shaping House & House Point system)
• Feedback on new, draft lunchtime provision offer, including new resource purchases
• Views to influence/shape school Buddy System
• Co-constructing rules for EYFS Outdoor Area: lunchtime
• Shaping activities for Transition Week 2024
